Spartans Finish Aggie RoundUp WIth Convincing Sweep

Davis, Calif.----- San Jose State University scored 15 goals in each of its final two matches against Redlands and Santa Clara to conclude its three days at the Aggie RoundUp with a pair of victories.

The No. 11 Spartans (4-7) have their first winning streak of the season after defeating Redlands, 15-9, and No. 14 Santa Clara, 15-6. San Jose State led from start to finish in each victory.

"The final day went well. We played everybody. The guys played against Redlands and really got fired up to do well against Santa Clara. We had Santa Clara shutout for three quarters. It was quite a feat. It really shows our improvement," said San Jose State University men's water polo head coach Bruce Watson. "We're better this weekend than we were last weekend. That's what we're trying to do."

Mark Kis led the offensive attack with three goals against Redlands in the Sunday opener. Connor Macmillan, Gal Haimovich, and Bence Pardi each added a pair of scores against Redlands.

Noah Pendleton and Jamie Steingraf split the goalkeeping duties. Pendleton was credited with 10 saves and Steingraf, six, against Redlands.

In its nightcap, San Jose State raced out to a 13-0 lead before finishing off the Broncos for the second time this season, 15-6.

Haimovich and Bende Szabo led the Spartans in scoring with three goals each. Kis and Neal Arnett added a pair of goals in the win.

Yahav Fire played the first half in goal for San Jose State and stopped three Santa Clara shots. Zoltan Der finished up in goal for the Spartans and was credited with a personal season-high nine saves.

The Spartans continue their demanding non-conference schedule next weekend in the MPSF Invitational hosted by the University of California, September 24-26.
