ALISO NIGUEL, Calif.----- For scoring two matching winning goals in three weekend victories at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Invitational men's water polo tournament, San Jose State University freshman Bende Pardi is the Golden Coast Conference (GCC) Player of the Week.
Pardi was the Spartans' leading scorer for the weekend with 11 goals on just 17 shots in four matches. After losing 10-8 to No. 6-Long Beach State in the Invitational opener, the freshman from Budapest, Hungary scored a season-high four goals in a 10-9 comeback victory over No. 12-Pepperdine. His game winner against Pepperdine came with 1:04 remaining in regulation play with the score tied, 9-9.
For an encore, Pardi matched his season scoring high of four goals and scored the game winning goal in San Jose State's 14-13 win over No.9-ranked University of San Diego. Pardi scored two of his four goals in the last period and his a 5-meter penalty shot with 0:22 to go in the fourth quarter gave the Spartans their first three-match winning streak of the season.
Heading into this weekend's road trip to Southern California to play No. 3-UCLA on October 2 and No. 19-LMU and Navy the next day, Pardi has 28 goals for No. 9 San Jose State (7-8).
