LONG BEACH, Calif.----- No. 5-Long Beach State scored on its first possession of the match and led the rest of the way in a 16-5 win over No. 10-San Jose State University in a Golden Coast Conference men's water polo match.
The Spartans' loss to the 49ers was their second of the season. At the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Invitational, Long Beach State (16-4, 0-2 GCC) edged San Jose State (8-12, 0-2 GCC), 10-8, scoring twice in the fourth quarter.
Laszlo Szieben, Neil Arnett, Bence Szabo, Neils Hofmeijer, Oliver Grant and Bende Pardi each scored one for the Spartans. San Jose State converted only 20.0 percent (6-of-30) of its shot attempts compared to 53.8 percent (15-of-28) by Long Beach State.
Rafael Real Vergara of the 49ers was the leading scorer in the match with four goals as Long Beach state extended its current winning streak to seven in a row.
San Jose State concludes its weekend road trip with an October 17 match at Whittier College. The opening sprint is at 12:00 p.m.
