EDINBURG, Texas - Goals from seniors Max Allen and Rudi Castro and a perfect performance in relief by goalkeeper Eric Waltz allowed San José State to top UTRGV for a 2-1 victory on Friday.

SJSU (7-5-2, 5-1-1 WAC) has now earned six straight results, matching the program's longest unbeaten streak since the 2009 Spartans notched eight in a row.

  • Castro scored the team's first goal of the day in the match's 12th minute, calmly collecting an Allen rebound off the woodwork before placing the ball into the back of the net. The sequence was started by senior Finlay Wood as the midfielder hit Allen in stride on the left side of the box.

  • The goal is the 17th in a Spartan kit for Castro. He now has three in just six appearances on the season.

  • It was Allen who scored the match-winner, firing a laser from 25 yards out past the diving Vaquero keeper. The 58th minute strike gave SJSU a 2-1 lead that it would not relinquish.

  • Waltz got the win in goal on Friday, making four saves in 65 minutes of action.

  • San José State held a 17-14 advantage in shots over UTRGV.

  • The Spartans are now 5-0-1 in the month of October.

  • Head coach Simon Tobin's program has now earned a result in eight of its last nine matches away from home against WAC opponents.

The Spartans will look to keep their six-match unbeaten streak alive when they return to the pitch on Sunday at Incarnate Word. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. (CT) in San Antonio.
