San José State record:
2-1, 1-0 Mountain West. Most recently, the Spartans opened Mountain West play with a 17-13 win at Hawai'i  on September 18.  San José State defeated the Rainbow Warriors for the second consecutive time in Honolulu.

Western Michigan record: 2-1, 0-0 Mid-American Conference. Most recently, the Broncos won their second game in a row with a 44-41 win at Pitt, on September 18 in the first meeting between the two programs.

Television:  ESPN+ will televise  the Western Michigan game.  The ESPN+ telecast begins at 11:00 a.m. (PT)/2:00 p.m. (ET).

Play-by-Play Radio Coverage: KTRB (860 AM, San Francisco) will broadcast the Western Michigan game. Justin Allegri calls the play-by-play. Kevin Richardson provides commentary. The Western Michigan broadcast begins at 11:00 a.m. (PT) with an abbreviated pregame show. The broadcast also is available on the Varsity Network app.

Series history: San Jose State and Western Michigan are meeting for the first time in football.

Possibly a 3-1 September: A San José State victory over Western Michigan would give the Spartans their a 3-1 win-loss record at the end of September for the first time since 2012 when the team completed the month with a 4-1 win-loss slate.
Though San Jose State was 7-1 in 2020, the Spartans were 0-0  in September and did not play their season opener against Air Force until October 24.

Spartans with nine consecutive Mountain West victories: San José State's win over Hawai'i extends the Spartans' Mountain West's longest active winning streak against conference opponents to nine victories. San Jose State won its final 2019 conference game and at home against Fresno State, its six Mountain West contests in 2020, and defeated Boise State for the 2020 Mountain West championship.

Prior to the current streak, the Spartans' four-game conference winning streak in 2013 was San José State's longest as a Mountain West member.
