Women's Gymnastics Impressive In 2022 Opener

Denver, Colo.--On Sunday, the San José State University women's gymnastics team recorded an impressive start to the 2022 season, scoring the second-highest team score in school history with a 195.950 in a dual meet at Denver inside Magness Arena.

The Spartans' team score was just .025 short of the school record set at the 2018 MPSF Championships, and .025 ahead of the 2004 and 2017 MPSF Championship scores. San José State had not scored a 195.000 or better in any season-opening meet in school history.

Individually, Jada Mazury and Lauren Macpherson showed why they are two of the team's top performers, each winning an event title and finishing with impressive all-around scores. Mazury won the bars with a 9.925, tying four other Spartans for the second-best bars score in school history. Macpherson won the beam with a career-best 9.900, becoming the ninth Spartan to achieve this feat and 12th beam routine to receive a 9.900.
