Spartans Take Two on Saturday at NorCal Kickoff

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -
Jenessa Ullegue pitched a complete game shutout to lead the San José State softball team (3-1, 0-0 Mountain West) to it's first of two wins on Saturday afternoon at the NorCal Kickoff at Shea Stadium in Sacramento. Ullegue (2-0) had seven strikeouts and allowed just two hits in six innings to blank Santa Clara (1-2, 0-0 West Coast Conference) 9-0 in the Spartans' first game of the day and came in for relief to earn the win in game two. 

The Spartans came from behind to score three runs in the fifth inning and edge out Sacramento State (1-2, 0-0 Big Sky) for the second time this weekend in a 6-5 victory in game two. Ullegue pitched in both games on Saturday with nine strikeouts in 10.0 IP and a 0.70 ERA.
 



Game 1:

  • Jules Ronquillo was 3-for-3 and a walk, bringing her season batting average to .615.
  • Jocylyn Vidal was 2-for-3 with the only home run of the game, a solo shot in the 6th inning
  • Trenity Edwards put on a defensive masterclass behind the dish with seven putouts and three assists. 
  • Edwards was 2-for-4 with two RBI's
  • Karizma Bergesen was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a double
  • The Spartans scored nine runs on 12 hits with just one fielding error 

Game 2: 

  • Edwards went 2-for-3 with a stolen base
  • Behind the plate, Edwards caught a runner attempting to steal to close the third inning.
  • Caroline Bowman started the game in the circle, pitching three innings before Ullegue came in for relief and threw four innings with two strikeouts and allowed five hits.
  • Ashlynn Griffith went 2-for-3 with a stolen base and one RBI
  • Ronquillo had a leadoff triple in the third inning.
  • The Spartans scored six runs on 11 hits


NEXT UP
The Spartans make the short trip to Davis tomorrow to take on Saint Mary's College in their closing game of the NorCal Kickoff weekend. First pitch is at 9 a.m.
