COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Haylee Nelson, Mia Schafer and Sarah Smevog will represent the San José State volleyball program this weekend at the USA Volleyball Women's National Team Open Program (WNTOP) tryouts this weekend, February 25-27, at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The three players will be participating in part of the selection process for the U.S. Women's National Team, NCAA Elite Athlete List and 2022 Collegiate National Team. This is the first opportunity for each of them to be involved in the USA Volleyball program.

Fans watch the WNTOP online at Baller.TV. Schafer is in the Red Wave Friday from 2-3:40 p.m MT, while Nelson and Smevog are in the Blue Wave from 6:10-7:50 p.m. MT.

The Open Program was made available to current and recently graduated, college-age athletes born in years 1997-2003 inclusive. The 2022 U.S. Women's Collegiate National Team will train on June 19-25 in Anaheim, alongside the U.S. Women's National Team athletes and staff.

San José State head coach Trent Kersten will be one of 50 coaches from around the country who will assist U.S. Women's Head Coach Karch Kiraly. He continues to be involved with the national team program after serving as an assistant coach at the USAV National Team Development Program Winter Training Series this past December.

The Open Program will offer professional development opportunities for attending coaches through classroom sessions with National Team staff. During the program, coaches will help facilitate court activity, evaluate athletes and collect performance analytics.

"I am excited to bring Haylee, Sarah and Mia to the National Team Open Program," said Kersten. "I am very proud of each of them and cannot wait to watch them compete with some of the best volleyball student-athletes at the Olympic Training Center."
