SAN JOSE, Calif.—Eight San José State women's gymnasts earned 20 all-conference honors, and Spartan coach Joanne Bowers and James Williams received coaching honors from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation on Thursday for their performances and achievements throughout the 2022 season.
The eight Spartan honorees included six who received All-MPSF honors for the first time in her career. During their freshman year in 2020, Jada Mazury and Emma Milne each received two honors that season. No All-MPSF honors were given in 2021 due to COVID.
The All-MPSF honors were determined by each gymnast's national qualifying score (NQS) on March 13. The top gymnast from each school in each event was an automatic selection with seven additional gymnasts per event chosen as at-large selections regardless of team, based on the next-highest NQS. The top-five gymnasts in the MPSF were named to the first team, while the remaining student-athletes were named to the second team.

Joanne Bowers, Head Coach
Bowers was named the MPSF Coach of the Year, as voted upon by her conference peers. In her fourth season, she has led the Spartans to new heights in 2022 as the team has scored 196+ in four meets this season including a school-record 196.625 in the team's final home meet against UC Davis. The balance beam team broke the school and MPSF record with a 49.300 in a meet on February 6.
James Williams, Assistant Coach
Williams was named the MPSF Assistant Coach of the Year. In his fourth year on the coaching staff, he has helped the bars team reach new heights as the team broke the school record with a 49.350 against Air Force on February 11. The Spartans are currently ranked 23rd nationally on bars with a 49.150 NQS and swept all five first team All-MPSF honors on the event.
