PHOENIX, Ariz. - Karizma Bergesen led San José State (10-6, 0-0 Mountain West) in a split result on Day 1 of the Grand Canyon Invitational on Friday morning. The Spartans took the first game against Binghamton (6-5, 0-0 America East) 7-2 and were edged out, 5-3, by Montana (7-9, 0-0 Big Sky) in game two. Bergesen went 3-for-6 (two home runs and a double) with five RBIs on the day.
Alyssa Graham went a combined 6-for-8 and scored two runs for the Spartans.

Game 1 vs. Binghamton: W, 7-2
- Caroline Bowman (1-2) earned the win in the circle: 3.0 IP, five strikeouts, two hits allowed
- Jenessa Ullegue (6-1) replaced Bowman in the fourth and had seven strikeouts, three hits allowed and no walks in 4.0 IP
- The Spartans scored five runs on five hits in the fourth inning to take a commanding lead
- Bergesen and Jocylyn Vidal each homered to center field in the fourth
- Graham went 4-for-4 and scored two runs
- The Spartans out-hit Binghamton 10-5
Game 2 vs. Montana: L, 5-3
- The Spartans had three runs on seven hits and no errors in the loss
- Five Spartans recorded hits
- Ullegue came in to relieve Lacie Ham (2-3) after the freshman threw 4.0 innings with three strikeouts and four hits allowed
- Montana had a two run home run in the top of the 7th to take the 5-3 edge and the Spartans couldn't respond

The Spartans continue with day two of the GCU Invitational tomorrow, Saturday March 5 and will face Montana and Binghamton each again. First pitch for SJSU vs. Montana is at 8:30 a.m. PST and Binghamton will follow at 11 a.m.
