Spartans Victorious In Extra Innings

LOGAN, Utah—Taylor Squires drove in three, and Jillian Figueroa scored the winning run on a Malia Luna sacrifice fly to right field as the San José State softball team needed eight innings for a 9-8 win at Utah State Friday afternoon at Johnson Field.
 

  • Karizma Bergesen got San José State on the board with her team-best ninth home run of the season to right field.

 

  • San José State scored seven runs in the fourth inning, the third time this season SJSU has scored seven or more in the fourth. The team has scored 51 runs in the fourth inning this season.
  • Squires drove in three of the Spartans seven runs in the fourth inning with a bases-clearing double to left center.

 

  • Luna and Aneesa Almaguer each drove in runs earlier in the fourth before they and Alyssa Graham scored on the Squires double.
  • Jenessa Ullegue drove in the final two runs of the fourth inning with a two-run homer to left field, her fifth of the season.
  • Figueroa walked to start the 8th inning, advanced to second on a passed ball, went to third on a Jocylyn Vidal groundout and scored on Luna's sacrifice fly to right field.

 

  • Ullegue pitched the final two innings in the circle to improve her record to 16-9 on the season.
