ITHACA, N.Y.—The San José State women's gymnastics team was honored for their hard work in the classroom for the 2021-22 school year as the Spartans ranked in the top-20 nationally among gymnastics programs and had a school-record 14 gymnasts earn Scholastic All-American honors, as announced by the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Associate (WCGA).
The Spartans ranked 17th in the country with a 3.683 grade-point average. Texas Woman's led the country at 3.877, followed by Alaska Anchorage at 3.866.
The 14 San José State gymnasts honored include four who received the honor for the third time in her gymnastics career – Jada Mazury, Emma Milne, Carli Orcutt and Mercedez Sanchez. Five received her second honor – Natasha Forrand, Madison Kirsch, Jaudai Lopes, Lauren Macpherson and Julieta Mendiola. Five others received her first honor – Micheala Gentry, Trinity Johnson, Sophia Konieczny, Makayla McMahon and Katherine Weyhmiller.
To be eligible for the award, gymnasts must have a 3.5 overall grade point average or a 3.5 grade point average for 2021-22.
The 14 Spartan gymnasts honored ties with the 2013 team for the most recognized.
