  • Spartan fifth-year seniors Haylee Nelson and Sarah Smevog are two of the eight players named to the 2022 Preseason All-Mountain West team. Nelson and Smevog return for their fifth season at San José State after being honored as 2021 All-MW selections.
  • After a successful 2021 campaign, San José State was picked third in the 2022 Mountain West Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Spartans are tied with Boise State for third-place, each receiving 75 points and one first-place vote. San José State finished the 2021 season with a 19-10 overall record and 13-5 MW mark, good for third-place in the final conference standings.
  • Haylee Nelson enters the 2022 season with 1,113 kills in her Spartan career, the 16th player in school history to record 1,000 or more kills. She begins the season 13th on the school's all-time list and will move into 12th place with her first kill of the year.
  • Sarah Smevog begins the 2022 season fifth on the San José State all-time digs list with 1,247. She recorded her 1,000th career dig in 2021, becoming the ninth player in SJSU history to record 1,000 digs. She needs 103 digs to move into fourth place with Kristal Tsukano.
  • Head coach Trent Kersten begins his third season at the helm of the program and guided the program to one of its most successful seasons in 15 years in 2021. He has a 26-19 coaching record in two seasons. Kersten also became a father over the summer as he and his wife, Tara, welcomed a baby girl, Kolbie, in July.
