SJSU Swimmer Andreea Dragoi Wins Miss Ambassador US Nation

WASHINGTON, D.C. - San José State's Andreea Dragoi won the 2022 Miss Ambassador US Nation crown on October 23rd. She qualified for the 2022 Miss America Nation Pageant after winning the Miss California U.S. Nation Pageant crown and the Miss San Jose U.S. Nation Pageant earlier this year.

  • Dragoi is a triple threat excelling in school, athletics and modeling.
  • She was one of 11 swimmers to qualify for the CSCAA National Invitational Championships for the Spartans.
  • She qualified at the European Junior Championships and World Cup in 2019.
  • After tearing her ACL she decided to become a woman in STEM and focus her studies on rehabilitation sciences stating, "It makes me happy and I feel powerful to be a STEM woman. I hope I can inspire other women to pursue careers in STEM and know that the field is for everyone.".
  • She participated in volunteer work in her home country of Romania, donating her clothes, food and time to a local orphanage.
  • Dragoi has a lot of emotions regarding her pageant run. "I am grateful for all the people I have in my life that make me happy and support me. And I am thankful that I now can have a say and influence the stereotypes and stigmas in the pageant and modeling world. This accomplishment means a better version of myself as I learn many new things from every pageant, every girl, every different culture, and lastly a new experience".
  • Coach Sage Hopkins also shared a few words about Andreea. "First off, congratulations to Andreea for this honor ... my entire family was thrilled when she messaged us that she won.  One of the central pillars of our program philosophy is to foster a culture of strong women who develop the courage to stand up, speak out, and help the world be a better place.  Andreea models much of what our program strives for ...  her stellar academic record, tremendous athletic performance, and advocacy for children and people with disabilities is something that we are very proud of."
