FIRST ROAD TEST OF SEASON SATURDAY:  The San José State men's basketball team travels to the Mountain Time Zone Saturday to face Northern Colorado Saturday afternoon. The road trip marks the first away game for SJSU this season and the first of three games the Spartans will play in the state of Colorado this season. The Spartans will play at Colorado State on December 31, and at Air Force to end the season on March 4.
 
San José State brings a 3-1 record into Saturday's matinee game. The team has split so far this week, defeating Alabama State, 70-57 on Tuesday, before falling to Hofstra, 85-76 on Thursday.
 
ABOUT NORTHERN COLORADO:  The Bears enter the game with a 1-2 record after facing two top-five ranked teams this early in the season. The team fell at No. 3 Houston 83-36, before coming back home for an 80-77 win over Texas A&M-Commerce and then fell at No. 5 Baylor, 95-62 this past Monday. Head coach Steve Smiley is in his third season at the helm of the program and guided the 2021-22 team to the semifinals of the Roman College Basketball Invitational. Guard Daylen Kountz was a unanimous first team All-Big Sky Conference honoree last season.

  • Omari Moore continues his impact on the Spartan team as he leads San José State in scoring at 15.3 points per game. He has led the team in scoring against Georgia Southern (14) and Alabama State (19). Moore is second on the team in rebounds with 25, 6.3 pg.
  • Alvaro Cardenas doesn't need a break, as he didn't get one in the win over Alabama State. He played all 40 minutes and scored a career-best 17 points on 6-for-10 shooting from the field. He leads the team in minutes played at 33.5 pg.
  • Tibet Görener went 5-for-10 from three-point range against Hofstra to tie his career best for most threes made in a game. He ended the Hofstra game with 17 points. Görener leads the Spartans in three-pointers made with 10.
  • Sage Tolbert III has made an immediate impact in the paint as he leads the team and the Mountain West at 10.0 pg. He has grabbed 10+ rebounds in two of the four games - 14 vs. Bethesda and 12 vs. Hofstra.

UP NEXT: The Spartans fly to the Bahamas to play at the Baha Mar Hoops Tournament in Nassau, Thanksgiving weekend. The team opens action on Friday the 25th against North Texas at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT. Opponents and times on Saturday and Sunday will be determined by the previous day's results.
