  • The Spartans are looking for their third win over Hawai'i in a row for the first time since the 1998 season and first home win over Hawai'i since 2011. The teams are playing for the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy. Tomey was the winningest head coach in Hawai'i football history at the time of his departure. When he retired from SJSU, he had more coaching victories in five seasons than any of his predecessors since 1989. This will be the fifth meeting for the trophy. With the win over CSU, Brennan passed his mentor, Tomey, for seventh on the Spartans all-time head coach win list with 26.
  • The Spartans are looking to go 6-0 at home for the first time since 1978 and their first six win home season since 2006 when they went 6-1 at home.
  • SJSU has played an NCAA low 10 games this season and every game has started at 5:30 p.m. local time or later. This will be Hawai'i's 13th game this season.
  • Junior quarterback Chevan Cordeiro, who has been named MW Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (10/03, 10/10), went 170 passing attempts before throwing his first interception as a Spartan on a deflected ball at Fresno State (10/15). Cordeiro leads the Mountain West in touchdowns with 18 and yardage with 2,677 yards while playing in one less game. Cordeiro is also second in the Mountain West with only three interceptions and just behind Air Force's Haaziq Daniels who only has two, but has only 74 passing attempts compared to Cordeiro's 357. Tennessee's Hendon Hooker, Arkansas State's James Blackman and LSU's Jayden Daniels are the only FBS quarterbacks who have over 300 passing attempts and less interceptions than Cordeiro.
  • Graduate wide receiver Elijah Cooks had a career-high three touchdown receptions at Utah State (11/19/22) and has eight touchdowns on the season  to tie a career high. It was the first three receiving touchdown game for a Spartan since Chandler Jones caught three touchdowns against Fresno State on Nov. 29, 2013. Cooks leads the MW in touchdown receptions and is third in yards while playing in only 10 games.

The Spartans lead the MW with 33 total sack and had their nine sacks against CSU (11/05) is the most for SJSU this century Cade Hall leads the Spartans with 7.5 sacks.
  • The Spartans are bowl eligible for the first time since 2020. Brennan is looking for his second bowl game as head coach of the Spartans and the first head coach to lead the Spartans to two bowl games since Claude Gilbert in 1986 and 1987. Gilbert is a member of both the SJSU and SDSU Hall of Fame's.
  • Graduate linebacker Kyle Harmon was one of the best tacklers in college football last season. Harmon ended the campaign with 133 tackles which was good for third in the nation. The Antioch, Calif. native was named Preseason All-Mountain West this season and was First Team All-Mountain West in 2021 and 2020. Harmon's 11 tackles in the opener against PSU (9/1) was good for the second most in week one in the Mountain West. Harmon has 88 tackles this season and 428 tackles in his career which is good for fifth in SJSU history and one behind Carl Ekern for fourth in SJSU history.
  • The 1941 game between these teams was canceled due to the start of World War II. SJSU was in Honolulu on December 7 when Pearl Harbor was attacked preparing for December 13 and December 16 games against Willamette College and Hawai'i, respectively.
