The San José State men's basketball team traveled over 2,737 miles this week to play in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship this weekend, November 25-27, at the Baha Mar Convention Center. The Spartans are one of eight teams to participate in the three-day event. SJSU faces North Texas in the first round on Friday. The winner/loser of the game will face the winner/loser of the Oakland-Long Beach State game on Saturday.

ABOUT NORTH TEXAS:  The Mean Green enter the tournament with a 3-1 record after defeating Paul Quinn, 76-46, Tuesday evening. The team defeated Fresno State, 61-52, on November 19, fell at Saint Mary's, 61-52, on November 13, and opened the season with a 53-47 win over Southern Nazarene. Head coach Grant McCasland is in his sixth season at the school. The Mean Green have captured either the Conference USA regular season or tournament title the past three seasons.

The two teams only other meeting was during the first season of former head coach Bill Berry in 1979-80. The teams played at the All-College Tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. The 1979-80 team finished 17-12 overall and 7-6 in the PCAA, won the PCAA Tournament and played in the NCAA Tournament.
 
The 2022-23 Spartans are off to one of the best starts in school history since 1950. The last team to start 4-1 was in 2010-11. The previous best start was 26 years ago in 1996-97 when that team started the year 7-1 and 9-2, with a win over nationally-ranked Alabama en route to winning the Cable Car Classic. 4 WINS BEFORE THANKSGIVING: For the first time in school history, the Spartans recorded four wins before the Thanksgiving holiday. Prior to this season, only two teams had won three games before the holiday. The 2010-11 team was the first to accomplish this feat, starting the year 3-0 and played only four games before Thanksgiving. The 2019-20 team played seven games before Thanksgiving and recorded three wins.
 
DOUBLE-DOUBLES START EARLY: Three Spartans have recorded double-doubles in the five games played. In the Bethesda game, Robert Vaihola led the team with 14 points and had 10 rebounds, while Sage Tolbert III grabbed a team-best 14 rebounds with 13 points. Trey Anderson recorded his first of the season and second of his Spartan career at Northern Colorado with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
