SJSU Signs 13 on Early National Signing Day

SAN JOSE, Calif. -
Alexander Cobbs, Jay'Vion Cole, Imari Conley, Quali Conley, Luke Griskey, Vaka Hansen, DJ Harvey, Keynan HigginsKamaehu Kopa-KaawalauoleNoah Mcneal-Franklin, Hunter Nowell, Tavarius Pitts and Isiah Revis all signed National Letters of Intent on Early National Signing Day Wednesday to join SJSU football for the 2023 season. The 13 members of the current incoming class include six transfers and one from a power five school. Nine of the incoming class are from California and also nine come from the defensive side of the ball. The Spartans will increase their 2023 class on National Signing Day on Feb. 1, 2023.


Alexander Cobbs / LB / Long Beach, Calif. / St. Anthony HS

  • Played two seasons at St. Anthony High School as a defensive end and tight end for coach Raul Lara.
  • Led the team to being runners up of CIF Division 10 in 2021
  • 2022 First-Team All-Del Rey League Defensive End
  • 2021 Second-Team All-Del Rey League Defensive End
  • 2022 605 All-Star Selection (DE/TE)
  • Had a career high 10 tackles in a game against San Pedro High School
  • Also played basketball for four seasons in high school and led Lakewood High School to a Frosh Moore League Championship in 2019


Jay'Vion Cole / CB / Oakland, Calif. / Cal Poly

  • Registered 20 tackles across 11 games at Cal Ply (13 solo, seven unassisted)
  • Led Cal Poly with four interceptions on the season
  • Had two multi-interception games (9/10 vs. San Diego, 10/22 vs. Eastern Washington)
  • Recorded a career-high four tackles in a single game against Montana (11/05)
  • Spent two years at Oakland High School (freshman and sophomore) and two years at McClymonds High School (junior and senior)
  • Team Captain for two years at Oakland High School


Imari Conley / DB / Fresno, Calif. / Central East HS

  • Played football at Central East HS
  • Played AAU basketball and ran AAU track
  • Had a 98 yard touchdown in high school
  • Ran a 10.6 in 100-meter dash
  • Won state football championship and also two-time track state champion
  • Brother is incoming transfer running back Quali Conley


Quali Conley / RB / Fresno, Calif. / Utah Tech

  • Played in all 11 games at Utah Tech in 2022 and finished with 1095 yards on the ground on 186 carries with eight rushing TD's
  • Rushed for more than 100 yards in six of the 11 games
  • Ran for a career-high 215 yards on 25 carries against Tarleton State (11/12)
  • Racked up three rushing touchdowns in a single game in a win over Chadron State (9/10)
  • Finished the year with 12 receptions for 89 yards
  • Brother is SJSU incoming freshman Imari Conley


Luke Griskey / OL / Huntley, Ill. / Huntley HS

  • Played four seasons as offensive lineman/tight end
  • Was the captain of the football team for two seasons
  • Named the 2021 Football University Top Gun national Gatorade MVP (Offensive Line)
  • Named the 2021 Huntley High School Offensive Player of the Year
  • Named the 2020 and 2021 Huntley High School Offensive Lineman of the Year
  • In addition to football, he also competed in wrestling and track and field as a shot put and discus thrower


Vaka Hansen / DL / Orange, Calif. / St. John Bosco HS

  • Played three seasons at Servite High School in Anaheim and one season at St. John Bosco
  • All-Trinity League First Team in 2021
  • All-Trinity League Second Team in 2022
  • Won the CIF Southern Section Championship, the CIF State Championship and the National Championship with St. John Bosco
  • Best individual game performance was three sacks, a forced fumble and an interception


DJ Harvey / DB / Palmdale, Calif. / Virginia Tech

  • Played in nine games for Virginia Tech in 2022
  • Fielded nine punt returns totaling 14 return yards
  • Recorded six tackles (three solo), 1.0 TFL (two yards), one pass breakup and one forced fumble
  • Had a forced fumble for a 2-yard loss and fielded a 5-yard punt return at North Carolina (10/1)
  • Registered two tackles (one solo) and was Tech's primary punt returner against Boston College (9/10)


Keynan Higgins / WR / Antioch, Calif. / Pittsburg HS

  • Played his freshman season at Liberty High School before transferring to Pittsburg High School for his final three seasons
  • Led Pittsburg High School to the 2022 Nor-Cal Division A Championship and the NCS Division 1 Championship
  • Scored three touchdowns in games against Deer Valley High School and Liberty High School
  • His brother, Kenroy Higgins, competes for the SJSU Track & Field team


Kamaehu Kopa-Kaawalauole / TE / Ewa Beach, Hawai'i / James Campbell HS

  • Played TE and WR for four years at James Campbell HS and earned four letters
  • Was named All-State in football
  • Played in the HS Polynesian Bowl
  • Honor roll student


Noah Mcneal-Franklin / LB / Vallejo, Calif. / Contra Costa College

  • Played two seasons at Contra Costa as a linebacker
  • Helped Contra Costa win the 2021 Chris Papas Bowl
  • 2022 Preseason Juco All-American
  • Played football for his sophomore, junior and senior seasons at St. Patrick-St. Vincent High School
  • Was a running back, safety and defensive end
  • Also played basketball in high school


Hunter Nowell / DB / Huntington Beach, Calif. / St. John Bosco HS

  • Played football for two years at St. John Bosco and Jserra
  • Won CIF Southern Section, CIF State Championship and National Title at St. John Bosco
  • Had two tackle for losses, two pass breakups and a sack in one game his senior season


Tavarius Pitts / DL / Atlanta, Ga. / Conta Costa College

  • Played two seasons for head coach Otis Yeleverton at Contra Costa College
  • Honored as a First-Team All-American
  • Recognized as a Second-Team Preseason All-American
  • Top performance in a game was three sacks and four tackles for a loss


Isiah Revis / DB / Las Vegas, Nev. / SF City College

  • Returned an interception for a touchdown to win the 2022 Golden State Bowl for SF City College
  • Had a career best eight tackles and two forced fumbles in game against Laney College
  • Named to the All-Conference First Team as a safety
  • Played football and competed in track at Liberty High School
  • 2019 Nevada 4A High School Champions
  • Two-time regional qualifier in long jump
