San José State Athletics wishes #AllSpartans a very happy new year. As we enter 2023, SJSU takes a look back at some of the top moments of 2022 and celebrates the Charge of the Spartans!!!
- The women's golf team finished No. 3 in the country after winning their first-ever Mountain West Championship and NCAA Ann Arbor Regional
- The Spartans won the conference title by a record-setting 30 shots
- SJSU was the only school outside of the Power 5 to advance to the NCAA Championship, finishing seventh in stroke play to make the match play portion of the national championship for the first time in program history
- Natasha Andrea Oon earned All-America accolades and finished runner-up in the stroke play at the NCAA Championship
- Oon was named the 2022 Inkster Award recipient, presented by Workday, recognizing the highest ranked women's Division I collegiate golfer in her final year of eligibility for the 2021-22 college golf season
- The women's soccer team swept Mountain West regular season and tournament titles for the first time in school history
- The Spartans advanced to the NCAA tournament for the second time in five seasons, taking on No. 3 seed Stanford
- SJSU posted a six-match unbeaten streak midway through the season and tied for the Mountain West regular-season title with a 6-3-2 mark
- Jada Wilson was the Mountain West Defender of the Year and made the the United Soccer Coaches D-1 All-Pacific Region Third Team
- Bente Pernot was the Mountain West Freshman of the Year and the Mountain West Championship Tournament MVP
- The gymnastics team for the fourth time in school history can claim the title of Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Champions
- The Spartans won the 2022 champion with a meet-record team score of 196.425, the third-highest score in school history
- SJSU played Stanford in the NCAA regionals in Seattle, Wash.
- Jada Mazury added to her trophy case as she was voted the 2022 Breakout Performer of the Year by College Gym News
- The football team made its second bowl game appearance in three seasons for just the second time in program history, finishing the regular season 7-4
- The Spartans were selected to play in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl against Eastern Michigan
- Viliami Fehoko garnered Sporting News All-America second team accolades and was named Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year
- The baseball team made its first-ever appearance in the Mountain West Championship game after defeating Nevada in the semifinals
- The Spartans posted its best record in over a decade and finished a program-best 16-14 in Mountain West play
- Charles McAdoo earned Collegiate Baseball All-America second team honors
- McAdoo is a preseason All-America selection for 2023
- The volleyball team won a program-best 14 matches in Mountain West play, and advanced to its first-ever Mountain West Championship match
- SJSU won 21 matches and surpassed the 20-win plateau for the first time in 21 years
- The Spartans played in front of a regional-television audience for the first time on NBC Sports Bay Area on Nov. 19, 2022, with USA Volleyball Coach Karch Kiraly on the call
- SJSU earned a final RPI ranking of No. 80, fourth-best in the Mountain West
- The men's basketball team is off to its first-ever 2-0 start in Mountain West play, including the Spartans first win over Colorado State on Dec. 31
- SJSU posted a 9-4 non-conference record, the best since the 2010-11 season
- The Spartans are 6-1 at home this season
- Roman Johnson, Jr. won the 60-meter dash at the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships
- Gabby Spencer won the women's 200-meter dash and Micah Hairston earned gold in the men's 110-meter hurdles at the Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships
- Spencer is the first-ever SJSU women's track athlete to win a Mountain West title
- Hairston (110mHH), Spencer (200), Sydney Bentley, Jr. (400), Mahkaia Lee (long jump), Emilia Sjostrand (triple jump), Bryan Quintero (hammer throw) all qualified for the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field West Prelininary Rounds
- Right-handed pitcher Brady Hill signed with the Colorado Rockies after being selected in the 15th round of the MLB Draft
- Justin Lockhart made the No. 1 play of the night with this touchdown catch in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl against Eastern Michigan (tweet here)
- Elijah Cooks had the No. 4 play on SportsCenter during SDSU game (tweet here)
- Tiana Cello scored the No. 8 play of the night on SportsCenter versus Colorado College (video here)
- Football home attendance reached record numbers, surpassing last season's totals and posting the highest attendance since the 2008 season when CEFCU had double the capacity
- Twelve student-athletes named Arthur Ashe Jr. Scholars (story here)
- San José State student-athletes excelled in the classroom as 135 student-athletes and cheer squad members were recognized as either a President's Scholar or Dean's Scholar at San José State
- For the 2021-22 academic year, 186 Spartans earned academic all-conference recognition from the Mountain West (15 sports – 148) Western Athletic Conference (men's soccer – 6), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (women's water polo – 8; women's gymnastics - 10) or the Golden Coast Conference (men's water polo – 14)
- A school-record 85 San José State University student-athletes received a 2021-22 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete Award for their performances in the classroom during their athletic career. The Spartan student-athletes represent 15 sports, led by women's soccer with 14 honorees, followed by football with 13, women's swimming and diving with 11, and women's golf and women's track and field with seven each
- The men's soccer team earned its highest-ever seed at the WAC Championship at No. 2, advancing to the championship with a 4-0 win over No. 3 seed Seattle in the WAC semifinals
- The Spartans fell in the shootout of the WAC Championship at California Baptist
- SJSU tallied a seven-match unbeaten streak during the midpoint of the season
- Bende Pardi earned Honorable Mention Honors on the 2022 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America Team
ONE SPARTAN NATION
- Launched the first fully-integrated season ticket and donation subscription with automatic renewal in the country
- One of the first in the Mountain West to start an Alston program with more than $600,000 committed to student-athletes for academic success
- One Spartan Nation Members rallied for more than $163,000 in 24 hours on the University's Day of Giving
- Playfly Sports is surpassing record numbers in sponsorship for the Spartans
- Construction continues on the Spartan Athletics Center, completion scheduled for July 2023
- Sold a record amount of season tickets
