SJSU Finishes Record-Breaking Day One at Don Kirby Invitational

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— Aliyah Williams, Lina Schubert, Christopher Coats, Ajamu Reed and Cameron Tarver led the Spartans in its first day of competition at the Don Kirby Invitational with several new SJSU school records.

  • Lina Schubert set the school record in the Women's High Jump with a mark of 1.77 meters (5'9.75"), placing sixth in the event.
  • Aliyah Williams placed third in the Women's 400m Dash, submitting an SJSU third-best time of 55.91. The mark also ties Alyssa Bean's mark set at the UNM Indoor Open for fourth place on the all-time performance list.
  • Christopher Coats submitted a school record-breaking time of 21.01 in the Men's 200m Dash. Cameron Tarver broke Coats' record almost immediately afterwards with a mark of 20.98. Tarver and Coats now own the No. 1 and No. 2 spots respectively on SJSU's all-time record and performance lists.
  • Ajamu Reed set the school record in the Men's Long Jump with a mark of 7.70m (25'6"). He breaks a record that has stood since 1969, set by Marlon Anderson. The distance also puts Reed at No. 24 in the nation.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will look towards Day Two of the Don Kirby Invitational on Feb. 11. The day kicks off with the Women's 60m High Hurdles at 9:30 a.m.
