Spartans Fall in Resumption of Suspended Game Against Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.–Theo Hardy went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Robert Hamchuk went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the San José State baseball team (18-14, 11-4 Mountain West) in a 12-10 loss to Cal Poly (12-21, 7-8 Big West). The game was suspended after the eighth inning due to darkness on February 20 with Cal Poly leading, 11-10. It was continued on April 18 and Cal Poly added a run in the ninth inning.

  • Hardy had one triple, two singles and one walk.
  • Hamchuk had two doubles in addition to one single.
  • Hardy and Hamchuk each scored one run.
  • Charles McAdoo homered for the first time this season, crushing a solo shot in the first inning.
  • LHP Jesse Gutierrez and RHP Nathan Hansen delivered impressive performances out of the bullpen.
  • Gutierrez entered the game in the third inning with the bases loaded and nobody out and allowed only two Mustangs to come home. He remained in the game for one more inning and pitched a scoreless top half of the fourth.
  • Hansen replaced Gutierrez in the next inning and pitched two scoreless innings without giving up a hit.
  • Jeriah Lewis went 2-for-4 in his first game in the starting lineup this season. For the redshirt sophomore, it was his first multi-hit game of his career.
