SAN JOSE, Calif.—San José State baseball is scheduled to host Santa Clara on Tuesday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Excite Ballpark.

  • The Spartans are coming off a weekend series against Washington that was significantly affected by the weather. Friday's game was canceled and Sunday's game was moved up to 10:05 a.m. from its original start time of 1:05 p.m. The two teams ended up playing three close games as Washington swept the Spartans but only outscored SJSU by a total of four runs.
  • There were several impressive pitching performances in the series. On Thursday, RHP Nathan Hansen, LHP Jack White and RHP Keaton Chase combined to allow only one run in 5.0 innings. On Saturday, RHP Jonathan Clark tossed 5.0 scoreless innings in relief. On Sunday, RHP Aaron Eden started and pitched a season-high 6.0 innings, allowing only two runs and RHP Darren Jansen finished the game with 3.0 scoreless innings.
  • Charles McAdoo led the Spartans offensively in the series by hitting four doubles. McAdoo is first in the Mountain West with five doubles this season.
  • The Spartans lead the Mountain West in opposing batting average, allowing opponents to hit only .235.
  • Two Spartans rank in the top 10 in the conference in ERA. White is third with an ERA of 1.42 and Clark is eighth with an ERA of 1.80.
  • Hunter Dorraugh is fifth in the conference in both batting average (.440) and slugging percentage (.720).

VS. SANTA CLARA

  • The Santa Clara Broncos have split their six games this season, winning two of four against Washington and one of two against UC Davis.
  • Most recently, Santa Clara was shut out 4-0 by UC Davis on Saturday.
  • Historically, the Spartans and Broncos are very familiar with one another. Since 1965, only Fresno State has played more against SJSU than Santa Clara. Santa Clara holds the advantage as they have an all-time record of 135-94 in series against SJSU.
  • The teams split their two matchups last season with Santa Clara winning 10-9 on March 22, 2022 and SJSU getting revenge with a 5-4 win on April 19, 2022.
  • Jackson Forbes led the Spartans by going 3-for-5 with a walk over the two games and McAdoo displayed his power with a 2-run home run in the 5-4 win.

Up Next: The Spartans begin Mountain West conference play by welcoming Fresno State to Excite Ballpark for a weekend series March 3-5. The three games will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
