SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San José State baseball team will welcome Air Force to Excite Ballpark for a three-game series this weekend. Originally scheduled to take place in Colorado, the series had to be moved to California due to expected cold weather and snow in the Centennial State.

PREVIOUS GAME

  • The Spartans lost 8-3 to Saint Mary's on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Dalton Bowling and Hunter Dorraugh each hit solo home runs in the loss.
  • Right-handed pitcher Aaron Eden started the game and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings without allowing a hit.

THIS SEASON

  • Three Spartans rank in the top 10 in the Mountain West Conference in ERA. Jack White leads the conference with an ERA of 0.79 while LHP Micky Thompson and RHP Jonathan Clark are fourth and 10th with respective ERA's of 2.40 and 3.68.
  • White is also first in the conference in wins with three and opposing batting average, limiting opponents to an average of only .132.
  • As a team, the Spartans lead the conference in opposing batting average (.230).
  • On offense, three Spartans are tied for second in the conference in doubles this season. Hunter Dorraugh, Charles McAdoo and Dalton Bowling have all hit six doubles respectively.
  • After a slow start to the season, Robert Hamchuk, the team's leader in batting average in 2022 (.378), has come alive of late. After impressive performances last week, he was named the Mountain West Player of the Week
  • Behind the plate, Matt Spear has been a force at throwing out base runners. He has thrown out a conference-leading six attempted base stealers this season.

VS. AIR FORCE

  • The Air Force Falcons are 6-12 this season.
  • The Falcons won one of two games against Louisiana Tech during the week.
  • The Spartans are 19-24 all-time in series against the Falcons.
  • In 2022, the Spartans and Falcons matched up in the Mountain West Championship Game which Air Force won, 8-3.
  • In total, the Spartans played five games against the Falcons in 2022 and finished with a 1-4 record against the eventual Mountain West Champions. Despite losing four out of five against Air Force, the Spartans actually outscored the Falcons in the head-to-head matchup thanks to a 30-9 win on May 15, 2022.
