Spartans Historic Season Continues with 77-52 Win Over Southern Indiana

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—Three Spartans scored in double figures, led by Alvaro Cardenas' career-high 22 points, as the San José State men's basketball continued this historic season with a 77-52 win over Southern Indiana in the first round of the Discount Tire College Basketball Invitational.
 

  • The win gives San José State its first postseason victory in six tries. The Spartans had lost three times in the NCAA Tournament and once in the NIT and the CBI.
  • Cardenas was 8-for-13 from the field including 3-for-6 from three-point range.
  • Omari Moore added 15 points and dished out six assists in the win.
  • Robert Vaihola added 10 points off the bench as he went 4-for-6 from the field and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds.
  • In all, 11 players scored for the Spartans.
  • Moore moved up four San José State single season lists, moving into second with 163 assists, tied for fifth in three-point field goals made at 65, tied for third in three-point field goals attempted at 192 and eighth in field goals made with 216.
  • The Spartans continued their dominance on the boards, outrebounding the Screaming Eagles 50-25.
  • Every player suited up on Saturday saw action in the game.
