Spartans Set to Kick Off Outdoor Season with Cal Opener

SAN JOSE, Calif.— San José State looks to start its outdoor season off strong at the Cal Opener on March 4 after a successful indoor season that saw 10 Spartans earn a collective 13 All-MW selections and another 13 medals at the MW Indoor Championships.

Women's

  • Gabby Spencer had the best outdoor times for SJSU in both the 100m and 200m Dash in 2022, ending her season with top marks of 11.58 and 23.19 respectively. She qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships last year as well
  • Lina Schubert owned the top outdoor High Jump mark in 2022 with 1.71m (5'7.25"), and looks to build off a 2023 indoor season that saw her jump a school record 1.77m (5'9.6")
  • MW Indoor Championship Women's Performer of the Meet Emilia Sjostrand will not be participating in the Cal Opener in order to prepare for the NCAA Indoor Championships held March 9-11 in Albuquerque, N.M. She qualified for the Triple Jump and Long Jump events, for which she is nationally ranked sixth and tenth respectively. Sjostrand qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships last year in the Triple Jump

Men's

  • Jalen Adams led SJSU's men's side in both the 100m and 200m Dash last outdoor season with times of 10.67 and 21.57 respectively
  • Micah Hairston returns after being the Spartans' leading hurdler in 2022. He had SJSU's best time in the 110H with a 13.83 and in the 400H with a time of 54.82, and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in 2022 in the 110H event
  • Jacob Lopez led the Spartans in the Shot Put event in 2022, with his top throw on the season measuring 16.45m (53'11.75")
