SANTA CLARA, Calif.—Matt Spear went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run, a double and four RBIs while Theo Hardy went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead the San José State baseball team (11-9, 4-2 Mountain West) in a 9-2 win over Santa Clara (13-7, 4-2 West Coast Conference) on Monday at Stephen Schott Stadium. Five different Spartans' pitchers combined to record 10 strikeouts while limiting Santa Clara to only seven hits.
- Dalton Bowling hit his team-leading fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning.
- Spear's home run was his third of the season.
- Charles McAdoo extended his hit streak to nine games.
- Spear, Jack Colette and Hunter Dorraugh all hit doubles.
- Kimo Fukofuka registered his first hit of the season.
- Dorraugh had two walks.
- Left-handed pitcher Corey Sanchez started the game and tossed 2.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two.
- Right-handed pitcher Nathan Hansen earned his first career win as he entered in relief of Sanchez and threw 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up only one hit and striking out two.
- LHP Jesse Gutierrez pitched 1.2 innings, conceding one run on one hit and striking out two.
- RHP Cade Cushing retired his only batter of the game.
- RHP Darren Jansen struck out four of the six batters he faced.
