SAN JOSE, Calif.—Left-handed pitcher Ethan Ross tossed 5.0 innings, struck out nine batters and allowed zero earned runs while Robert Hamchuk and Dalton Bowling each registered three hits to lead the San José State baseball team (5-5, 2-0 Mountain West) in a 23-2 win over the University of San Francisco (6-3, 0-0 WCC) on Tuesday afternoon at Excite Ballpark.

  • Jeriah Lewis, Theo Hardy and Matt Spear all produced two hits respectively.
  • Lewis and Nik Trapani each homered in the seventh inning.
  • In total, the Spartans scored nine runs in the seventh inning as Lewis hit a two-run blast, Trapani belted a three-run shot and four other Spartans scored via walks or wild pitches.
  • Lewis led the team with four RBIs.
  • Hamchuk and Bowling each had two doubles.
  • Hunter Dorraugh brought home three runners with a bases-clearing double in the fifth inning.
  • LHP Jesse Gutierrez pitched a scoreless 2.1 innings, allowing only one hit and striking out four.
  • RHP Joey Cammarata struck out both batters he faced.
  • RHP Cade Cushing pitched a scoreless ninth inning.
  • Five Spartans were hit by pitches and 11 reached base via walks.
  • The nine strikeouts by Ross was the most in a single game by a Spartans pitcher this season.
  • 23 runs are the most runs the Spartans have scored in a game since May 15, 2022 when they plated 30 in a win over Air Force.
