SAN JOSE, Calif.—The San José State baseball team heads to Fresno, Calif. this weekend for four games against the Fresno State Bulldogs. On Friday night at 6:05 p.m., the Spartans will play as the home team and bat second as the game will serve as the makeup contest from March 5 which was postponed due to rain. On Saturday, the two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 2:05 p.m. while the series finale will take place on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. All four games will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network

PREVIOUS SERIES

  • The Spartans were narrowly beaten by Cal Poly in two games on Tuesday.
  • Robert Hamchuk led the Spartans over the two games, hitting 5-for-10 with one home run, two doubles, four RBIs, one walk and 10 total bases.
  • Theo Hardy and Jeriah Lewis also hit over .500 as Lewis went 4-for-7 and Hardy went 5-for-8.
  • In the second game, Dalton Bowling hit his team-leading eighth home run.
  • Left-handed pitcher Jesse Gutierrez and right-handed pitcher Nathan Hansen each tossed 2.0 shutout innings.

WHERE THE SPARTANS RANK IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST 

  • The Spartans rank second in the Mountain West Conference in opposing batting average. Opponents are hitting only .264 against the Spartans.
  • LHP Micky Thompson ranks third in ERA at 3.58.
  • RHP Jonathan Clark is tied for seventh in strikeouts with 45.
  • LHP White is tied for first with five wins.
  • Matt Spear ranks second in runners caught stealing with 14.
  • Four Spartans rank in the top 10 in doubles. Charles McAdoo and Hunter Dorraugh are tied for third with 13 each, Bowling is tied for sixth with 12 and Colette is tied for eighth with 11.
  • Bowling is third in home runs with eight, third in RBIs with 37 and is ninth in slugging percentage (.571).
  • Hardy is eighth in batting average at .347.
  • Colette is second in stolen bases with nine and Lewis is tied for fourth with eight.
  • Dorraugh is tied for second in walks with 23, Hardy is tied for fifth with 22 and Colette is tied for eighth with 21.
  • Four Spartans have been named the Mountain West Player of the Week in 2023: Jack Colette (April 10), Charles McAdoo (April 3), Robert Hamchuk (March 13) and Hunter Dorraugh (Feb. 20).

VS. FRESNO STATE

  • The Fresno State Bulldogs are 18-17 this season and sit in third place in the Mountain West with a conference record of 9-8.
  • The Bulldogs have won three of their last four games, taking two out of three against San Diego State and winning over Pacific.
  • With two wins over Fresno State earlier this season, the Spartans improved their all-time record in series against the Bulldogs to 93-169.
  • Thompson had a dominant outing in his start against the Bulldogs on March 4. The Spartans' left-hander tossed 6.0 shutout innings, allowing only seven hits while striking out three.
  • Clark was impressive in his start as well when he took the ball on March 3. The right-hander pitched 6.0 innings and allowed only three runs on eight hits while striking out three.
  • Jack White, RHP Keaton Chase and RHP Darren Jansen were superb in their appearances out of the bullpen.
  • Colette led the Spartans offensively, going 4-for-7 at the plate with a home run, a double, two RBIs, a walk and eight total bases.
