Multiple Spartans Win MW Titles in Final Day of Outdoor Championships

CLOVIS, Calif.— Emilia Sjostrand, Jeremiah Walker and Demaris Waters each won individual Mountain West titles to lead San José State in the final day of competition at the MW Outdoor Championship at Veteran's Memorial Stadium.

  • Sjostrand won the Women's Triple Jump with her best mark of 13.72m (45'0.25") setting a facility record for Veteran's Memorial Stadium. Any of Sjostrand's three jumps would have won her the MW title.
  • Demaris Waters took first place and a MW title in the Men's 110m Hurdles with a time of 13.51 seconds. With the time, Waters sets a new Veteran's Memorial Stadium facility record as well as a MW conference and championship meet record. His mark is the second-fastest in school history, behind Dedy Cooper's time of 13.43 seconds set in 1978.
  • Jeremiah Walker won the Men's 400m Dash for the first MW title of his career with a mark of 45.74 seconds. His time is the third-fastest in school history, behind SJSU legends Tommie Smith (45.25 seconds) and Lee Evans (43.86 seconds).
  • Men's 400m Relay teammates Christopher Coats, Cameron Tarver, Jalen Adams and Shamond Brooks Jr. won the Spartans' second MW title of the day in 39.76 seconds. Their time is good for the fourth-best in school history.
  • Walker also won the Men's 200m Dash with a time of 20.61 seconds, good for the third-fastest time in school history behind SJSU legends Smith (19.83 seconds) and John Carlos (19.92 seconds).
  • Tarver also took second place in the Men's 200m Dash with a time of 20.74 seconds to join teammate Walker on the podium. Walker and Tarver were also teammates in high school, both attending Central East High in Fresno, Calif.
  • Women's 400m Relay teammates Sophie Liao, Gabby Spencer, Sharli'e McCuller and Eve Divinity finished second with a time of 44.77 seconds. Their mark is the second best in school history.
  • Tarver and Walker were joined by Harry Overstreet and Christopher Coats to take second in the Men's 1600m Relay with a time of 3:09.49.
  • Lina Schubert tied for second place in the Women's High Jump with a top mark of 1.68m (5'6").
  • Sharli'e McCuller took third place in the Women's 400m Dash with a time of 11.60 seconds, which is tied for second-best in school history.
  • Tarver added another podium finish to his day, this time taking third in the Men's 100m Dash with a time of 10.42 seconds, which is good for eighth-best in school history.
  • Zaire Waring took third place in the Men's 400m Hurdles with a time of 51.80 seconds.
  • The men's team finished third in the overall team competition with 111 points, the highest-ever finish by SJSU in the Mountain West. The women's side finished fifth with 77 points, which is the most ever scored by SJSU at the MW Outdoor Championships.
