SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.—Lucia Lopez Ortega shot a 4-under 68 and is tied for third individually after the first round of the 2023 NCAA Championships at the Grayhawk Golf Club. The seventh-seeded San José State women's golf team finished the day shooting a 4-over 292 and is tied for 13th with Texas and Arizona.

- Lopez Ortega made seven birdies during her round, tying two others for the most made by a player in the first round.
- She shot 4-under on the par 5s, tying with three others for the best of the tournament, and 2-under on the par 3s.
- Her 68 ties former Spartans Janice Moodie and Natasha Andrea Oon as the only three Spartans to shoot that score at the NCAA Championships. Moodie did it in the first round of the 1997 championship, while Oon did it in the second round last year.
- Kajsa Arwefjäll shot a 1-under 71 and is tied for 21st. She made four birdies during her round.
- Arwefjäll was 2-under on the par 4s, tying for the second best outcome on those holes.
- Antonia Malate shot a 3-over 75 and is tied for 90th. She made eight consecutive pars on her first eight holes played (10-17) and made two birdies during her round.
- Rebecca Gyllner and Louisa Carlbom are tied for 127 at 6-over 78.
- The Spartans begin the second round Saturday morning beginning at 7:05 a.m. off of the first tee.
