Spartans Take Series Over Nevada With 7-1 Win

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Jack Colette and James Shimashita both utilized the long ball in San José State's (26-24, 17-11 MW) 7-1 win over Nevada (20-32, 10-19 MW) to clinch the series heading into Saturday's regular-season finale.

  • Colette opened the scoring with a leadoff solo blast to start the fourth inning over the right-centerfield wall.
  • The Wolfpack was able to tie the game in the top of the third, but a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half gave SJSU a 3-1 lead.
  • In the fourth inning, Shimashita extended the lead with a two-run shot that sneaked just inside the right-field foul pole.
  • LHP Micky Thompson tossed 7.0 innings of one-run baseball, while tying his season high with six strikeouts.
  • RHP Nathan Hansen had three strikeouts in 2.0 innings of relief.

UP NEXT: The Sparans will close the regular season and go for the series sweep over Nevada on Saturday at 2 p.m.
