Arwefjäll Named MW Golfer of the Year, Four Named All-MW

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—San José State women's golfer Kajsa Arwefjäll has been selected as the 2023 Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Year, as voted upon by the conference's head coaches. She and three other Spartan women's golfers received All-MW honors as well.
 
Arwefjäll is the fourth Spartan to be named the MW Women's Golfer of the Year since joining the conference in 2013-14.

 The Spartans placed three on the first team All-MW –Arwefjäll, Lucia Lopez Ortega and Antonia Malate. Louisa Carlbom received her first All-MW honor as she was named to the second team.
 
Kajsa Arwefjäll – First Team All-MW, Jr., Hollviken, Sweden
Best stroke average in the conference at 70.67
Finished second at the MW Championship at 5-under 211
Won her first collegiate title at the USF Intercollegiate with an 11-under 202
Six top-10 finishes this season in nine tournaments played
20 rounds of par or better – 18 under par and two par rounds
Shot a school-record 64 in the final round of the USF Intercollegiate
Played the first two rounds at the Augusta National Women's Amateur
Currently ranked 29th in Golfstat and 44th on the WAGR
Fourth all-conference honor and third consecutive first team All-MW recognition
 
Antonia Malate – First Team All-MW, Sr., Seaside, Calif.
Has a 71.44 stroke average
Finished tied for 6th at the MW Championship
Best tournament finish was tied for second at the Stanford Intercollegiate
15 rounds of par or under – 13 under par and two par rounds
Shot a school-record 64 in the second round of the Illini Women's Invitational
Chosen for the Arnold Palmer Cup as part of Team USA
Finished T20th at the Augusta National Women's Amateur
Currently ranked 26th in Golfstat and 64th on the WAGR
Fourth all-conference honor and third consecutive first team All-MW recognition
 
Lucia Lopez Ortega –First Team All-MW, Sa Coma, Mallorca, Spain
Currently has a 72.04 stroke average
Finished tied for ninth at the MW Championship at 2-under 214
Finished in the top-10 in four tournaments this season
Tied for fifth at the Therese Hession Regional Challenge
Currently ranked 70th in Golfstat and 116th on the WAGR
 




Louisa Carlbom – Second Team All-MW, Gothenberg, Sweden
Currently has a 73.37 stroke average
Won her first collegiate tournament as she tied for first at the Landfall Tradition
Shot a 10-under 206 including a 67 in the first round
Two other top-20 finishes including tying for 17th at the MW Championship
Eight rounds of par or better including four rounds in the 60s
 




San José State begins play at the NCAA Athens Regional, May 8-10, at the UGA Golf Course. The second-seeded Spartans tee-off with South Carolina and Ole Miss Monday beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET/5:00 a.m. PT.
