Spartans Head to Boston for Showdowns Against Northeastern, Boston College

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State women's soccer team (0-1-1, 0-0-0 Mountain West) will play at two Boston-based schools this week: the Northeastern Huskies (1-1-0, 0-0-0 CAA) and the Boston College Eagles (0-1-1, 0-0-0 ACC). First up will be a matchup against the Huskies on Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT on FloFC. The second match will be a contest against the Eagles scheduled for 12 p.m. ET/9 a.m. PT on Sunday, Aug. 27 on ESPN+.

  • In the first week of the season, the Spartans lost 2-1 at No. 19 Santa Clara and earned a 1-1 draw versus UC Santa Barbara.
  • Bente Pernot made 11 saves and six saves respectively in the two games. Her 17 saves leads the Mountain West Conference this season.
  • Bella Flocchini and Taylor Phillips were the Spartans' goal scorers.

RECORD WATCH

  • With her 11 saves this year, Pernot has launched herself into the top 10 for most career saves by a Spartans' goalkeeper, moving past Arianna Romero (2019) and her 87 stops. With 91 career saves, Pernot is 19 away from the 110 of Marissa Dayton (2006-07) who is currently in ninth.
  • Pernot has recorded the seventh-most shutouts in Spartans' history with eight. She is one shutout away from tying Meghan Maiwald (2010-11) and Adrienne Herbst (2003-05) who each recorded nine clean sheets. Paige Simoneau, the Spartans' assistant coach, holds the all-time record with 21 career shutouts.

VS. NORTHEASTERN

  • The Northeastern Huskies lost 2-0 to Xavier and won 3-1 over Holy Cross to open the 2023 season.
  • The Spartans and Huskies only matchup in history was a 5-3 Northeastern win in San Jose on Sept. 28, 2001.

VS. BOSTON COLLEGE

  • The Boston College Eagles started their 2023 campaign on the West Coast where they drew 0-0 versus Cal State Fullerton and lost 4-2 to Long Beach State.
  • Sunday's match will be the first-ever meeting between the Spartans and Eagles.
