COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The San José State women's soccer team received three first-place votes in the 2023 Mountain West Preseason Women's Soccer Coaches' Poll, announced by the conference on Wednesday afternoon. The defending Mountain West champions, the Spartans were selected to finish fourth in the conference standings.

In 2022, the Spartans won the Mountain West regular-season title and the Mountain West Championship, and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in Tina Estrada's first year as head coach. The Spartans did not concede a goal over three matches in the championship (310 minutes) and secured their third Mountain West Championship title since 2015. Five Spartans received all-conference selections while Jada Wilson was named the Defensive Player of the Year. Goalkeeper Bente Pernot earned multiple individual awards as she was voted Newcomer of the Year and the Mountain West Championship Most Valuable Player.

The Spartans will begin the 2023 season on the road at Santa Clara on Aug. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and play their home opener on Aug. 20 against UC Santa Barbara at 12 p.m.
