LAS VEGAS – Cynthia Flores scored her first goal of the season as San José State (3-3-5, 1-0-2 MW) shut out UNLV (5-3-4, 1-1-1 MW) 3-0 on Thursday night to kick off the two-match Nevada road trip.
- The Spartans got the scoring started in the 19th minute thanks to a goal from Bella Flocchini, her team-high sixth of the season, on the assist from Kennedy Mayo.
- SJSU doubled its lead after Sabrina Weinman buried a free kick in the 26th minute, her third goal of the season.
- After taking the 2-0 lead into halftime, Flores scored her first goal of the season in the 49th minute on the assist from Flocchini to make it 3-0.
- The defense continued to stay strong in the second half, which was highlighted by an open-net save from Phoebe Rapoza in the 74th minute to keep UNLV off the scoreboard.
- Shayla Sugai entered the game in goal for the Spartans in the second half and made her impact known with three saves, including a penalty-kick save in the 76th minute.
- Bente Pernot had two saves in the first half of the contest.
- The Spartans peppered 13 total shots with seven being on target.
- The three goals are the most against UNLV since October 15, 2017, when the Spartans won 3-2.
- The win ends a seven-match unbeaten streak by the Lady Rebels.
