BUIES CREEK, N.C.—Nayeli Ti’a recorded her second double-double of the season to lead the San José State volleyball team to a 3-1 win over host Campbell Friday morning at the Campbell Invitational. The Spartans dropped the afternoon match to Georgia Southern, 3-0.
San José State 3, Campbell 1 (22-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-16)
- Nayeli Ti’a recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 kills and a season-best 18 digs.
- Blaire Fleming added 16 kills and tallied a career-best seven digs in the win.
- Jiana Lawson led the Spartan blocking attack with five, one solo and four assists, while Brooke Bryant had four blocks, one solo and three assists.
- Teya Nguyen tallied a season-best 25 assists, four digs and two service aces, while Brooke Slusser had 20 assists, eight digs and an ace.
- Freshman Mari Lawton started the final two sets, contributing three kills and two blocks.
- Alessai Buffagni recorded 25 digs in the match, the 12th time in school history a Spartan has recorded 25 digs in a match. She is the eighth Spartan to achieve this feat.
- After losing the first set, the Spartans and Camels battled in the second set, with 12 tie scores and six lead changes.
- San José State never trailed in sets three and four.
Georgia Southern 3, San José State 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17)
- Ti’a again led the team with 14 kills and hit .385 for the match.
- She was this close to her second double-double of the day with nine digs.
- The rest of the team hit just .022 for the match (26-24-93).
- Buffagni led SJSU with 14 digs and tallied five assists.
- Slusser led the team with 15 assists and added nine digs, while Nguyen had 14 assists and seven digs.
- Bryant led the team with four block assists, while Lawton, who started her first match in a Spartan uniform, added three block assists.
- San José State is now 5-3 on the season.
