Spartans to Battle North Dakota State Monday Night

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's basketball team (4-2, 0-0 MW) will host the North Dakota State Bison (4-3, 0-0 Summit League) on Monday night at 8 p.m. inside the Provident Credit Union Event Center.   • For the second year in a row and for the second time in program history, the Spartans won four games before Thanksgiving. Prior to last season, the Spartans had never won four games before the holiday.
  • The Spartans played to a 2-1 record at the 2023 U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam last week, picking up wins over Norfolk State and Hampton while falling to Abilene Christian.
  • Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. was selected to the all-tournament team as he led the tournament with 14 assists and averaging totals of 16.0 points, 4.67 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
  • Tibet Görener made three 3-pointers in all three Spartan games in the tournament. He is now sixth all-time for most 3-pointers made at SJSU with 124 and is one away from tying Robert Owens (2009-10) for fifth.
  • Görener is also fourth in three-pointers attempted in school history with 372 and needs three more attempts to tie Tito Addison (1995-97) for third.
  • Alvaro Cardenas is coming off a career-high 23 points which he scored in the win over Hampton.
  • The Spartans have produced five halves of 40-plus points this season, doing so in the second half against UC Irvine, the first and the second half against Bethesda, the first half against Abilene Christian, and the second half against Hampton.

VS. NORTH DAKOTA STATE

  • The Bison have a 4-3 record this season.
  • They are coming off an 86-71 loss to Grand Canyon on Saturday.
  • The Spartans are 2-0 all-time against the Bison with two wins in the 1970's.
  • The Spartans' head coach, Tim Miles, was the head coach for the Bison from 2001-02 until 2006-07. The Bison head coach, David Richman, was an assistant under Coach Miles for four seasons.
