Strong Start to 2024 For Spartan Women's Gymnastics

LAS VEGAS—The excitement of 2024 season started Friday afternoon as Madison Kirsch, Jada Mazury, Marissa Ashton and Lauren Macpherson led the San José State women’s gymnastics team to a 194.950 in the first session of the Mean Girls Super 16 Gymnastics Championships at the Orleans Arena.

  • Kirsch had a 9.850 to lead the Spartans on vault and finish tied for fourth.
  • The team scored a 48.925, tying for the 10th-best team vault score in school history.
  • Mazury recorded the team’s highest individual score of the day with a 9.875 on bars to tie for third place and help the bars team to a 48.750.
  • Ashton made her Spartan debut Friday, leading the beam team with a 9.825 to tie for sixth place in the session.
  • Mazury and Macpherson each had a 9.800 on floor to tie for third place and help the floor team to a 48.625.
  • Three Spartans made their debut for the program on Friday – Ashton, Mia Nelson, Devyn Valuch.

UP NEXT – The Spartans travel up Interstate 80 for a meet at Sacramento State on Sunday, January 14, beginning at 2 p.m.
