COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San José State women's tennis players, Irena Muradyan and Duru Durgun, received recognition from the Mountain West Conference on Wednesday afternoon as Muradyan was named the Player of the Week and Durgun was honored as the Freshman of the Week. The Spartans went 3-0 last week with wins over UC Davis, San Francisco and Santa Clara to improve to 8-1 on the season. The Spartans lead the Mountain West Conference with five weekly awards in 2024.
- Posted a 3-1 record with two singles wins and one doubles win
- Went undefeated in singles with two straight set victories in the No. 2 singles flight
- Secured a 6-2 win in the No. 1 doubles flight against Santa Clara
- Won 24 out of 30 games in singles against San Francisco and Santa Clara
- Went 5-0 with three straight-set wins in singles and two wins in doubles
- Tallied a record of 36-9 in games in singles for the week
- Only lost two games combined in singles and doubles in the win over Santa Clara
- Earned back-to-back 6-1 doubles wins
UP NEXT: Muradyan, Durgun and the rest of the Spartans will open Mountain West Conference play at Boise State at 11 a.m. MT/10 a.m. PT on Friday, March 15. There will be a live stream if the match is played outside. Following the contest, the Spartans will return home to play Nevada on Sunday, March 17 at 12 p.m. at the Spartan Tennis Complex.
