Spartans Split on First Day of Sand Jose Invitational

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Jaida Ward and Jada Hall won their conference-opening match as the San José State beach volleyball team split a pair of duals at the Sand Jose Invitational Saturday afternoon at Spartan Beach.

  • The Spartans started the day by defeating Sacramento State 3-2.
  • Shirley Morrison and Tessa Rogers recorded the first point for SJSU, followed by Alexandra Dale and Jaena Bell with a hard-fought three-set win.
  • Teila Allen and Cheyenne Rice clinched the win with a 21-10, 21-14 victory.
  • San José State opened Southland Conference play with a 4-1 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
  • Ward and Hall won in straight sets over the pair from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 21-16 and 21-17.
  • The Spartans are now 5-6 on the season and 0-1 in the Southland.

UP NEXT – Sunday is day two of the Sand Jose Invitational, and SJSU will face Saint Mary’s, Utah and Sierra College (exhibition).
