LOGAN, Utah—Freshman Mia Nelson had a memorable first championship meet as she was the Mountain West Vault and Floor Champion Saturday night as the San José State women’s gymnastics team broke the beam team record and recorded a 196.400 team score at the 2024 Mountain West Championship at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
- The Spartans recorded their best team event score in the final rotation on beam as SJSU set a school record with a 49.400, breaking the old record of 49.350 set on February 25 at UC Davis.
- Marissa Ashton led the record-breaking beam team as she tied for second overall with a career-best 9.925.
- Lauren Macpherson and Jada Mazury added a 9.900 on beam to tie for fourth place.
- Nelson anchored the floor team with her 9.900 in the first rotation, and that held as she tied with Emma Loyim from Boise State for the title
- On vault, Nelson tied with Maggie Slife from Air Force with a 9.825.
- Macpherson finished tied for third on vault at 9.800 and in the all-around at 39.275.
- Jaudai Lopes was fourth in the all-around at 39.175.
- Katherine Weyhmiller led the Spartans on bars with a 9.875 to tie for second place, while Mazury tied for fifth on bars with a 9.850.
- Three Spartans were recognized after the meet as Specialists of the Year.
