Spartans to Split Squad for Tom Jones Memorial Invitational and Chuck Buettner Twilight

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San José State track & field team will split and head out on the road to continue its outdoor season starting on Friday through Saturday, April 12-13. The team will be competing in two competitions simultaneously this weekend at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, hosted by Florida in Gainesville, Fla. and the Chuck Buettner Twilight hosted at Chabot College in Hayward, Calif.

  • The Spartans are coming off of a strong showing at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational hosted by Cal last weekend, where multiple athletes recorded top-five finishes and personal bests. 
  • In the women's 4x100 relay Selena Arjona-Alcazar, Eve Divinity, Morgan Little and Alyssa Bean took first place to highlight the final day of the Brutus Hamilton Invitational. They ran the race in 44.77 seconds, upsetting the likes of Oregon, to win the event.
  • Divinity also ran a lifetime personal best of 23.91 seconds to finish sixth in the 200-meter dash.
  • Bean had an outdoor personal record in the 400-meter dash, running the event in 54.55 seconds to finish fifth.
  • Aliyah Williams finished first in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:09.83.
  • Micah Hairston took third in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.47 seconds.
  • The women's 4x400 relay team of Sarah Mosteller, Williams, Savana Dutton and Bean took second place, running the event in 3:42.93.
  • Zaire Waring, Jaden Smith, Harry Overstreet and Jeremiah Walker took third in the men's 4x400 with a time of 3:14.95.
  • Victoria Agyin won the women's triple jump at 12.47 meters (40'11").
  • Ethan Fong finished third in the men's event with a mark of 14.13 meters (46’4.25”).
  • Riley Costales with a personal best score, finished second in the women’s heptathlon standings with 4481 points. 
  • Kendall McCoy finished fourth in the heptathlon with 4057 points, also a lifetime best for her.  
  • Not only will the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational feature Olympic Athletes, World Champions, World Record holders and more, but will also play host to some of the best collegiate competition in the country. Both the Men's and Women's sides of the competition will feature 14 of the 25 ranked teams in the latest USTFCCCA NCAA Division I National Coaches' Poll

UP NEXT: The Spartans will travel to Fresno, Calif., to continue the outdoor season in preparation for the Mountain West Championships and compete in the Fresno State Invitational on April 26-27.
