Spartans Finish 2024 With Most Wins In School History

HOUSTON, Texas –Jaida Ward and Jada Hall clinched the advancing point and added another win against Houston Christian as the San José State beach volleyball team finished the 2024 season with a 3-0 win over Southeastern Louisiana before falling to Houston Christian, 3-1, at the Southland Conference Championship.

  • Fourth-seeded San Jose State won the first three matches against sixth-seeded Southeastern Louisiana to advance in the tournament.
  • Cheyenne Rice and Teila Allen got the first point with a straight-set win – 21-16, 21-18.
  • Tessa Rogers and Alexandra Dale then won 21-19, 21-15, to give SJSU a 2-0 lead.
  • Ward and Hall then clinched the match with a 21-19, 21-15 win.
  • The Spartans then faced third-seeded Houston Christian for the right to advance to the semifinal dual on Sunday.
  • Ward and Hall recorded the only Spartan point with a 21-11, 21-18 win.
  • They finished the year with a 15-9 record including 14-9 in the top position.
  • Rice and Allen went three sets in the match, winning the second set, 21-12, before falling 15-7 in the third set. 
  • They finished the year with a 16-10 overall record, the most wins by a pair in a season in school history.
  • Anna Salmon and Shirley Morrison never stopped fighting despite the 21-17, 23-21 loss. In set two, they fought off six match points to force extra play.
  • The 2024 team finishes the season with the most wins in school history at 14.
  • The 14-12 overall record is just the third time in SJSU history that the Spartans have posted a winning record – 11-9 in 2023 and 9-2 in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to the pandemic.
