Spartans Grab 11 Medals and Four Records on Final Day of MW Outdoor Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. – Jaden Smith and Malachi Snow both won multiple gold medals while also breaking multiple meet records for San José State Track & Field after the third and final day of competition at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships in Clovis on Saturday from Veteran’s Memorial Stadium. 

The men’s team finished in third with a score of 123 points while the women’s team finished in eighth with 41 points for a team total of 164 points which is the most in school history for the MW Championships. Smith won four gold medals on the day in the Men’s 200m Dash, 400m Dash, 4x100, and 4x400 Relays while also breaking meet records in the 400m Dash and the 4x100 Relay. Snow won three gold medals and broke three meet records in the Men’s 110m Hurdles, 100m Dash and the 4x100 Relay.

The Spartans finished the weekend with 13 medals overall, 9 golds, two silvers and two bronzes. The Spartans rewrote the Mountain West Outdoor Championship record books with breaking four meet records overall in the Men’s 4x100 Relay, Men’s 100m Dash, Men’s 110m Hurdles and the Men’s 400m Dash.  

  • Smith won the Men’s 400m Dash taking gold with a lifetime best time of 45.40. 
  • Smith also broke a MW Outdoor Championships meet record with his time.
  • Smith took gold with a late push in the Mens 200m Dash with a career best time of 20.63.
  • Harry Overstreet, Smith, Isaiah Gilmore and Jeremiah Walker in the last event of the day won gold in the Men’s 4x400 Relay with a career best time of 3:07.21. 
  • The squad won the Men’s 4x400 Relay for the first time in school history for the MW Championships.
  • Snow, Cameron Tarver, Smith and Issac Davis took gold in the Men’s 4x100 Relay with a MW Outdoor Championship meet record time of 39.34 seconds.  
  • The Men’s 4x100 group also moved in to second place on the SJSU all-time outdoor record book with their time.
  • Speed City swept the medal podium in the Men's 110m Hurdles.
  • Snow took another gold this time in the Men’s 110m Hurdles with another MW meet record time of 13.40.
  • Demaris Waters took silver in the Men’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.54 
  • Micah Hairston grabbed bronze in the Men’s 110m Hurdles to complete the podium sweep with a time of 13.95.
  • Hairston in the Men’s 400m Hurdles had a personal best time of 53.13.
  • Snow won the Men’s 100m dash with another MW meet record time of 10.14 seconds. 
  • Snow went three for three on Saturday in gold medals as well as breaking MW meet records. 
  • Snow’s time of 10.14 ties the SJSU all-time outdoor school record tying him with Speed City original Ronnie Ray Smith (1968).
  • Davis had a personal best time of 10.49 in the Men’s 100m Dash.
  • Tarver took bronze in the Mens 200m Dash with a time of 20.84 seconds. 
  • Tarver also running in the Men’s 100m Dash had a personal best time of 10.37.
  • Emilia Sjostrand won the Women’s Triple Jump with a jump of 13.67 meters. 
  • Sjostrand went two for two in gold medals at the MW Outdoor Championships, winning the Women’s Triple Jump and Long Jump events 
  • Sky Hagan took silver in the Women’s 100m Hurdles with a time of 13.37.
  • Hagan tied her career best with her time in the 100m Hurdles. 
  • Selena Arjona-Alacazar in the Women’s 100m Dash had a career best time of 11.62 seconds.
  • Overstreet in the Men's 400m Dash had a personal best time of 47.45 seconds.
  • Christopher Malone in the Men’s 800m Dash had a personal best time of 1:51.66.
  • Amanda Chalburg in the Women's 1500m had a personal best time of 4:42.45.
  • Ajamu Reed in the Men's Triple Jump had a personal best jump of 14.94m. 

UP NEXT: Qualifying Spartans will travel to Fayetteville, Ark. for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds held May 22-25.
