SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's goalkeeper Brendon Gyapjas was voted to the WCC's Men's Water Polo Preseason Team by the conference’s head coaches announced by the conference on Friday. Gyapjas was the only goalie who was named on the preseason team.

Gyapjas started 15 games in net for the Spartans last season, tallying 187 saves on the season and 12.5 saves per game. Gyapjas was crucial in the Spartans WCC Championship in 2023. Across all three games of the WCC Conference Championships, Gyapjas recorded 54 saves while only allowing 20 goals.

SJSU was voted to finish second in the WCC conference out of seven schools in the conference's preseason poll and received one first place vote.

San José State men's water polo was also ranked ninth overall nationally in the Collegiate Water Polo Association 2024 Men's Varsity Top 20 Preseason Poll. The Spartan's ranking of ninth ties the 2022 team as the highest preseason ranking in program history.

The Spartans will open the 2024 season at the Aggie Invite with games against UC Berkeley and UC Merced on September 14.
