Bryant Ties Record As Spartans Sweep USF

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Brooke Bryant tied the SJSU match hitting percentage record, and Nayeli Ti'a again led the Spartans in kills as the San José State volleyball team swept San Francisco, 3-0 (25-16, 26-24, 25-14) in the team’s home opener Thursday evening inside Spartan Gym.

  • Bryant hit .923 for the match with 12 kills on 13 attempts and no hitting errors.
  • She tied the record set by Cristin Rossman, who had the exact same numbers in a non-conference match at Saint Mary’s on November 8, 1994.
  • Ti’a again led the Spartans in kills with 18 and hit .400 for the match (18-6-30).
  • She recorded her fifth consecutive double-double as she and Randilyn Reeves led the team with 10 digs each.
  • The Spartans, one of the top-10 teams in the country in blocking, had nine blocks in the three sets, led by Ti’a with four (1-3).
  • Mari Lawton had three blocks (1-2), while Bryant, Blaire Fleming and Emma Testi each had two, and Jade Epps had a block in the third set.
  • Blaire Fleming was the third Spartan in double-digit kills with 11 and hit .333 on the night (11-3-24).
  • SJSU also recorded seven service aces in the win, two each by Fleming and Test and one by Ti’a, Brooke Slusser and Katie O'Sullivan.
  • Slusser had 37 assists, five digs and four kills in the win.
  • The Spartans are now 7-0 on the season, the best start since the 1988 team started 11-0.
  • SJSU is one of 12 teams in Division I that are still undefeated on the season.
