Firdaus and Mercie Lead as Spartans Finish Fourth at Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational Hosted by Air Force

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Zubair Firdaus shot a 70 (-2) in his third round and finished in sixth place in the team event while in the individual event, Alaric Mercie shot a third round 71 (-1) to finish in second place to lead San José State men’s golf in a fourth-place finish in the final day of competition at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational from Eisenhower Golf Club on Monday.

  • The Spartans shot 294 (+6) as a team in the third round to finish the tournament in fourth place out of the 22 teams with a combined three-round score of 863 (-1).
  • Firdaus had seven birdies on the day, shooting a third-round 70 (-2), and would finish in sixth on the player leaderboard. After three rounds of play, Firdaus finished with a total score of 213 (-3).
  • Firdaus shot four of his seven birdies on the front nine on his way to a 33 through nine holes. 
  • In the individual event, Mercie shot a third-round 70 (-2) and would finish second on the leaderboard with a three-round total score of 209 (-7). 
  • Keshav Mungali, in the team event, had three birdies to finish with a 74 (+2) in his third round and would finish in 13th place on the player leaderboard with a three-round total score of 214 (-2).
  • Ivan Barahona, also playing in the team event, shot a third-round 74 (+2) and would finish in 28th place on the player leaderboard with a total three-round score of 219 (+3).
  • In the team event, Jed Dy would shoot a 79 (+7) in his final round and finished the tournament with a three-round total score of 223 (+7).
  • Avinash Iyer shot a 76 (+4) in his final round of the team event and would finish with a total three-round score of 226 (+10). 
  • In the individual event, Xuan Luo shot a third-round 69 (-3) to finish in seventh place with a total score of 214 (-2), Marlon Jones shot a 71 (-1) in his third round to finish in 13th place with a total score of 217 (+1), Andreas Diogenous shot a third round 71 (-1) to finish with a total score of 221 (+5) and Awesome Burnett shot a third round 72 (E) to finish with a three-round total of 221 (+5).

UP NEXT: The Spartans will return home for the rest of the month before heading up the road to compete in the Alister Mackenzie Invitational hosted by California on Oct. 7-8 in Fairfax, Calif. at the Meadow Club.
