Iniguez Leads the Spartans in 2-2 Draw Against UC Davis

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Angel Iniguez recorded a goal and an assist to lead the San José State (1-4-4, 0-0-0 WAC) men's soccer team in a 2-2 draw against UC Davis (4-2-3, 0-0-0 Big West). The game marked the final non-conference game of the season for the Spartans.

  • Down 1-0 in the 56th minute of play, Iniguez perfectly curled his free kick past the Aggie goalkeeper and into the bottom right corner of the goal to tie the game.
  • The goal was Iniguez’s first of the season and 10th of his career. 
  • In the 68th minute, the Spartans would take the lead off another set piece when Iniguez launched a ball off a free kick from midfield straight onto Christian Powell’s head and into the back of the net. 
  • The goal was Powell’s first of his career.
  • Iniguez notched his third assist of the year and 14th of his career on the Powell goal.
  • Iniguez leads the Spartans with three assists on the season. 
  • Anthony Guzman recorded his first start of the season. 
  • Ruben Flores-Thomas and Jordi Tortell Daly each tallied one shot on goal in the match.
  • In goal, Edgar Guerra recorded two saves. He now has 27 saves on the season. 
  • Flores-Thomas, Powell, Kaylob Walker, Niklas Dossmann, and Angel Fernandez all played the entire 90 minutes.
