Football

Record: 2-0, 1-0 MW

This Week: The Spartans will return home to CEFCU Stadium this Saturday against Kennesaw State. SJSU looks to stay undefeated for a 3-0 start for the first time since 2020

Last Week: The Spartans won their first game ever in Colorado Springs, defeating Air Force 17-7. 

Spartan Fact: Jordan Pollard recorded 17 tackles in the game, leading the team and setting a new career high. Pollard’s 17 tackles were the most in a game for SJSU since Kyle Harmon recorded 18 tackles on November 13, 2021, against Utah State.

Spartan Fact #2: Emmett Brown threw for 262 yards in the game with two touchdowns. Brown’s 58-yard touchdown pass to Jackson Canaan was the longest of his career and the longest touchdown pass for the Spartans’ since Nick Starkel’s 65-yard touchdown pass to Charles Ross on Aug. 28, 2021 against Southern Utah.

Volleyball

Record: 5-0, 0-0 MW

This Week: The Spartans travel across town for the Santa Clara Tournament for two matches this weekend, starting with Southern Utah on Saturday, followed by host Santa Clara on Sunday.

Last Week: SJSU swept through the Hawkeye Invitational #1 with three wins, defeating host Iowa, 3-1, Delaware, 3-0, and California Baptist, 3-0.  Nayeli Ti’a averaged 5.9 kills, 4.10 digs and 6.55 points while hitting .287 for the weekend on her way to earning Mountain West Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week.

Spartan Fact: The Spartans will spend the rest of the month playing matches in California. The team will play four matches over the next two weeks in the Bay Area and then open Mountain West play on Tuesday the 24th at Fresno State. SJSU hosts Boise State on Saturday the 28th to open the home portion of the MW schedule.

Spartan Fact #2: Nayeli Ti’a was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Spartans go 3-0 at the Hawkeye Invite.

Spartan Fact #3: San José State opens the season 5-0 for the first time since the 1995 season.

The Spartans open the 2024-25 schedule this week at the Palouse Collegiate in Pullman, Wash. The Spartans are one of 15 men’s teams participating in the tournament. Spartan Fact: ​​Diogo Baptista leads the Spartans with two goals scored so far this season. Jordi Tortell Daly and Daniel Fregoso Baptista have also scored a goal this year.

Spartan Fact: Senior, Kennedy Mayo scored her first goal of the young season from the spot on a penalty in the 16th minute against Northeastern. This was the first penalty attempt and penalty conversion of Mayo's SJSU career.

Men’s Water Polo

This Week: The Spartans will open the 2024 season at the Aggie Invite in Davis California. They will play Cal and UC Merced on Sept. 14 and UC Davis and American River College on Sept. 15.

Spartan Fact: San José State men's water polo was ranked ninth overall nationally in the Collegiate Water Polo Association 2024 Men's Varsity Top 20 Preseason Poll. The Spartan's ranking of ninth ties the 2022 team as the highest preseason ranking in program history.
