Spartans Stand Out in Singles Play at ITA Northwest Regionals

BERKELEY, CALIF.  – Cheuk Ying Shek, Duru Durgun, Nahjime Dho and Carla Urchoeguia led San José State with single victories on the third day of the ITA Northwest Regionals.

  • Ying Shek came up on top against Isabella Bringas from Davis in straight sets 6-0, 6-3 in the consolations round of 32
  • Durgun defeated Safien Boulonois from Gonzaga 6-0, 2-6 (13-11)
  • Dho won in straight sets against Lola Tavcar from Seattle 6-1, 6-0, in the round of 64 in the round two consolation draws
  • Urchoeguia advanced in the consolation round of 32 after her opponent Catherine Gagnon was unable to continue due to injury, 3-1
  • Ying Shek and Urchoeguia came up short against Sophie Luescher and Erika Matsuda from Washington 6-8 in the round of 16
  • Emma Fantousis came up short against Polina Marakhtanova from Davis 6-7 (4-7), 1-6
  • Olaya Bances Iglesias lost against Candela Aparisi from Oregon 2-6, 3-6
